The spot US export caustic soda
price was flat last week at $815-825/dmt FOB USG. This is based on stable
pricing indicators and continued tight supply. On the basis
of two confirmed deals at $860/dst, domestic spot caustic soda prices rose
$10/dst on week Aug. 23, at $855-825/dmt FOB USG. According to market sources, caustic soda demand was strong.
This provides an incentive for Chlor-alkali manufacturers to continue producing
high levels of the product. As seasonal
water treatment demand declines, the market for chlorine was expected to slow
down in the next weeks. Meanwhile, downstream demand for polyvinylchloride was
also decreasing. Olin has decreased
ethylene dichloride production at its Freeport, Texas complex. However, the
