to thin trade, Asian recycled high-density polyethylene prices remained stable
over the week ending February 15. Market sources indicated that
Singapore's decision to charge consumers for plastic bags, as part of its
larger drive to reduce waste and increase recycling rates, could result in
tighter availability of recycled feedstock if passed into law. Under the
Resource Sustainability Amendment Bill, supermarkets that have an annual
turnover exceeding S$100million ($75.43 million), will have to charge at least
5 cents per disposable carrier bag regardless of material. As authorities
seek to increase the recycling rate in the city state to 70% by 2030, and to
extend the life expectancy...
