The European polystyrene
market saw sharp price increases on April 20. This was due to a sharp upstream
pricing increase in feedstock styrene and continued pressure from rising
energy prices. Sources said that contract settlements in
Europe's GPPS market rose by Eur380 to 420/mt in April compared to March. This
was according to sources in the week preceding April 20. This was due to a Eur360-380/mt increase in the styrene
monomer contract price for April overMarch. Also, high natural gas prices had impacted
production costs. In April, styrene monomer
saw a further impact as outages at the Trinseo Terneuzen and BASF Ludwigshafen
