Demand in the downstream polyester sector remained sluggish. Several sources noted a lack of peak seasonbuying. Buyers are uncertain due to recent volatility on the crude oil markets, and the impact of US tariffs. A trader in China said that the polyester market is not likely to support MEG demand. The operating rates of polyester plants in China increased week-over-week, and were estimated at around 91.5% on March 14. However, participants were concerned about the possibility of increasing inventories if the peak season demand didn't materialize. This led to cautious purchases of MEG in the import markets.
