- The forward curve is transformed into backwardation- Front-month DDP is up 32 cents compared to Dec. 9 low

The US Gulf Coast front-month price of
benzene rose Dec. 14 due to tight supply in Europe. Sources cited this as
"spilling over" into US markets. December DDP benzene was 7 cents more expensive
at 296c/gal. This is a three-week record and 32 cents above the Dec. 9 low of
96.6c/gal. Also, the forward curve was in backwardation
which is indicative of short-term supply worries. Sources
said that low overall rates could cause supply tightness in Europe, as sources
claimed Dec. 14.
