FOB Korea down $10/mt Styrene margins are still negative

Due to a slowdown in
demand, trade activity in the Asian market for benzene was muted at the end of the
week. Although May-loading parcels offered strong prices, a final
bid of $1,125-1,145/mt was received. FOB
Korea benzene physical was $1,125-1,140/mt on April 1, down $10-14/mt in
comparison to the previous session. The
marker also transited through H1 May, H2 June, and H2 May laycans. Sources said that China offered styrene monomer to the
export market. Most discussions were at $30-$35/mt premiums for the CFR China
marker. The SM production margin of
non-integrated SM manufacturers was minus $155-160/mt. The price of May benzene papers was $1,110-1,115/mt before
an offer at $1,100-1,110/mt emerged. May
benzene paper stood at $1,110-1,130/mt.
