Asian ethylene was stable at $5-6/mt higher
on Dec. 14, due to a stronger downstream market. The high density polyethylene price increased
$20/mt on Dec. 14 to $940/mt Dec. 15. The spread
price between PE and E was $45-50/mt. This is still less than the $150-170/mt
breakeven spread. Spot price Discussions remained limited. Due to the
negative downstream production margins, spot ethylene demand was limited Dec.
14. Due to the persistently low cracker margins,
spot supplies from Asian naphtha producers were also limited. The CFR
Japan naphtha prices rose $1.125/mt on Dec. 14, and were now at $640.125/mt
Dec. 14. The spread in price between naphtha and ethylene
was $247.875-263.900/mt Dec. 14. This is lower than the $300-$350 breakeven
