India PTA: Price falls tracking PX values, easing freight rates / Downstream demand weak amid rise in cheaper imports / Vessel availability from Southeast Asia could grow tighter

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India fell day over day and week over week Aug. 1, tracking feedstock paraxylene values and easing containerized cargo freight rates. This led to a narrowing of the spread between CFR China and CFR India. The market saw a brief midweek rebound supported by firmer crude prices, but gains quickly faded as sentiment deteriorated toward the end of the week. PTA CFR India down $7/mt day over day and $20/mt week over week at $709/mt on Aug. 1, placing the spread to CFR China at $75/mt. The weekly average was up $0.6/mt at $716/mt CFR India.
