The US spot export polypropylene levels
remained steady week-on–week Dec. 7, despite limited trading activity following
the announcement of new Louisiana capacity. Market participants heard price indications of
38-39 cents/lb railcar basis, or $959-991/mt in late November and early 2012. Sources
have reported that current profit margins for PP market players are very slim
with feedstock polymer-grade propane being assessed at 29.5 cents/lb FOB USAG
on December 7. One source stated that "if there is demand,
people can buy or sell at that level." They can't
make much, but they can certainly move product at that price point. Another
source stated that the PP export window was limited at a price point of high
30scents per lb...
