The European butadiene
market continued to be dominated by a tight supply-demand balance in the week
ending May 6. This was due to strong domestic demand and limited spot
availability. Export cargo interest remained low as
traders reported little interest from US buyers, and European producers were
reluctant sell at reasonable levels due to the higher European domestic market. A producer stated that while [European] producers can sell
domestically above contract prices, North America is not interested in them as
they are already well supplied internally. If the domestic market is short, why would you send it to the
US at a lower price? A trader said $1450-1470/mt
