The US spot export of caustic soda fell on
Dec. 6 amid calm market activity. Sources
claimed that buyers were largely holding back on any new deals until the early
part of 2023. "Export is quiet;
Europe is quiet," a source said. According
to sources, prices may fall in the coming weeks but they are expected to remain
high due to tight US supply. US caustic
soda production is expected to fall by 1.384mt/year by 2022. This is due in
part to Olin's string if capacity shut downs since March 2021. Prices for the
week ended Dec. 6 were $955-$965/dmt FOB USG. These prices are based on stable
