Sources said that the possibility of
strikes at Northern European refineries is bringing into focus naphtha supply
situation. According to the CISL unions, Nov. 12
will see eight hours of strike at the ISAB refinery in Sicily. Two of
Italy's largest unions said that their representatives would meet with
government officials and refinery representatives to discuss future plans for
the plant. Because of disagreements over the collective
labor agreement, the two unions threatened strikes in Rotterdam. The union
members rejected BP's offer for a pay raise and asked the company to make
a new one. BP stated that it regretted not reaching an agreement but was
convinced it had offered a fair and market-based proposal, as people have come
