European HDPE spot price remained stable, despite a decline in virgin prices of
Eur50/mt during the week to Nov. 9, due to bearish demand. This was a sign
of the continuing weak demand for plastic resin, as well as the impact of
inflation and recessionary pressures. According to a distributor of
recycled products, "It appears that virgin prices have fallen and
suppliers are pushing for higher prices." The demand in Europe
remains flat, however. According to market sources, the November
industry-settled European Ethylene contract price was Eur35/mt more than the
October price of Eur1,295/mt Nov. 4. The settlement was delayed due to
diverging pricing expectations by buyers and sellers. There is still weak...
