Dec. 14 saw the European naphtha market
suffer a sharp decline, partly because the International Energy Agency stated
that the continent's average consumption was at its lowest level since the mid
2000s. It is expected to drop further in 2023. According to the IEA's monthly report,
"Regional naphtha supplies are at their weakest since more than 15 years." Due to
selling pressure in a market that was very weak, the December/January naphtha
spread dropped $7.50/mt to minus $11/mt on the day of assessment. This is the
lowest level since Aug. 16. In Europe, the naphtha crack fell
$1.70/b, to minus $14.80/b. A source stated that the physical
