caustic soda was stable during the second week in 2023. There was very little
spot activity. The
contract market was the main focus. Sources indicated a sharp decline in
January and first-quarter contract prices. Producers admitted that they expected to see a decrease of
Eur400-800/dmt monthly and quarterly. A
trader commented on market weakness and pointed out the current oversupply
situation. Producers are looking to offload product to the global export
market. This could further impact spot prices for the rest of January. "Import prices and contracts are decreasing, but the
delta [difference between spots and contracts] will not change." The trader stated...
