soda: European caustic soda prices fell in the week ending Dec. 20, due to a
combination of low demand and ample supply. Export FOB NEW prices were
$870/mt, a $230/mt decrease due to buyers refusing to purchase product. In
the face of similar weakness, CFR Mediterranean spot prices fell $200/mt.
Import cargoes are still not being sold. The arrival of new imports at the
end of the year drove the latter. Traders with product in the ARA were
reported to be having difficulty offloading product to meet final demand for
