European Benzene: Styrene deal for May boosts spot prices / Cross-value chain conditions remain quiet / Benzene prices see limited movement on day

The European Styrene market rose due to increased trading volumes, while the benzene market was largely illiquid because of low activity. The styrene markets remained characterized by uncertainty, as pockets of decreased availability continued to persist. This was in contrast with a weakening demand for key derivatives. A deal of 1,000 mt for May delivery was completed at $1.410/mt FOM ARA, which pushed prices up $34/mt the next day. Prices rose the same amount in June. They tracked the $34/mt increase within a larger bid-offer spectrum of $1,150-1,350/mt heard at $1.235/mt. The market was dominated with ongoing uncertainty regarding supply levels in the months ahead.
