Asian Ethylene vinyl acetate: Market softens, as Chinese demand remains weak / Foam-grade activity slightly up Formosa to close Yunlin EVA for July turnaround; stocks tight

Prices of ethylene vinyl-acetate in Asia remained low during the week ending May 21 due to sluggish demand for downstream products from China. The demand for foam-grade as well as photovoltaic EVA was weak. However, trade sources reported a slight increase in activity on foam-grade during the week. UNV1 producer said that buyers are taking advantage of the current low prices to restock. He attributed the low stock levels among traders as the reason for the increased interest. UNV1 Formosa Plastics Corporation, a producer of EVA plastics, plans to close its Yunlin 240,000 mt/year unit for maintenance on July 21. Two company sources confirmed this news. The turnaround should last about one month. Formosa had reported low inventories and that 40% of June's cargoes were already sold before the shutdown....
