The lack of firm offers meant that
discussions were sluggish in Asian Ethylene markets on Oct. 31. Northeast Asia traders
reported strong demand for December shipments. Some also stated that they
received inquiries for January shipments. However, cargo availability was
limited due to a shortage of vessels for deep-sea cargoes, and lower operating
rates in Asia which have decreased Asian supply. Multiple market sources stated that ethylene prices are
still limited because of weak downstream demand and falling prices in the
monoethylene glycol and styrene monmer markets. It will be difficult to find buyers willing to buy ethylene
above $900-$915/mt CFR North Asia, as downstream product margins are becoming
