On April 2, there was a noticeable increase in activity on the Asian ethylene market. Some producers were reported to have begun negotiations for cargoes due to be loaded in May. Some participants reported that the price of ethylene for May-loading cargoes was $31-$34/mt less than CFR Northeast Asia. This is largely unchanged compared to April's offers. Some buyers are still waiting for negotiations to begin on CFR NE Asia cargoes. Maruzen Petrochemical, Japan, decided to mothball the naphtha fed steam cracker at Chiba in eastern Japan. It will be integrated with another unit of its joint venture, Japan's Cosmo Holdings. Maruzen Petrochemical, Sumitomo Chemical and Japan's Cosmo energy Holdings said in a statement on April 1.
