Asia ethylene prices remained unchanged in
thin trade on Aug. 22, as buyers remained in a waiting-and-watch mode regarding
spot discussions. According
to market sources, the prices for gas freights from China to the Middle East
were $225-$235/mt while those from southeast Asia to the Middle East were
$190-$200/mt. The trader said that Asia demand
would be weak until China returns to a normal level of production and
consumption. The week's buying indications
remained unchanged at $800-810/mt, although sellers stated that they could not
offer cargoes at these levels due to high freight rates and ethylene production
