Asian naphtha compound was hit by a lack of spot buying activity from steam
crackers fed with naphtha, Nov. 9. Run rates were kept low to accommodate
continued low demand for olefins. Sources said that operators maintained low
run rates due to the inability of steam crackers to purchase naphtha-fed
steam. A trader based in Southeast Asia said that margins have been
negative throughout the process and that if it continues for a longer period,
crackers may have to be shut down for an extended time depending on their
