Asian Glycols prices rangebound due to stable upstream / Slowdown of downstream demand will impact MEG discussions / Polyester rates will be further reduced during the looming lull

The monoethylene glycol market in Asia was largely stable during the week of May 23. Some sources pointed to relatively stable crude prices, while other market participants cited largely unchanged downstream dynamics. Some participants, however, expected that discussions about imported MEG would ease in the next few weeks due to a slowdown of polyester and PET demand. Analysts in China reported that "there was a significant rise in buying activity following the announcement of paused reciprocal trade tariffs, but it has since cooled down as buyers are still concerned about high prices and tight downstream production margins."
