The Asian ethylene markets were quiet on
Nov. 17, owing to a persistently large buy-sell gap, and because some spot
discussions had been put on hold by the start of term negotiations. According to market participants, buy and sell
indicators remained the same on the day. A trader from
China stated that producers are feeling the pressure, as naphtha prices have
risen in recent days. "But downstream prices remain very weak so
it is difficult for customers to agree to ethylene above $900/mt CFR North Asia. We will have
to wait and see what the future holds. The benchmark
C+F Japan Naphtha marker was up $3/mt to $719.50/mt as of the Nov. 17 Asian
