EDC: Asian EDC fell $5/mt week-on-week,
reaching a two-year low in the week ending Sept. 29, 2009. This was due to a
bearish global EDC marketplace and falling prices for ethylene feedstock. The weakness of the global
market caused the EDC markets in Europe and the US to drop earlier in the week.
Asia followed suit. The CFR Northeast Asia
ethylene price dropped $90/mt over the past week, to $850/mt on Sept. 29. The cost of EDC ethylene feedstock was $246.50/mt based on
spot ethylene's current price. With scarce
spot price discussions, trading activities were restricted. According to market sources, EDC supplies were seen as being
heavy because of the high prices for caustic soda. This has kept chlor-alkali
