EDC: Asia's market sentiment
for ethylene dichloride declined from the previous week, Sept. 1, due to a
shortage of spot supplies and the growing caustic soda industry. Asian caustic soda $5/dmt
more week than a week at $525/DMT August 29. According to market sources, EDC supplies in Asia would
likely be limited due to high prices for caustic soda. End-users were reluctantly placing firm bids due to the
recent rise in Asian ethylene. Sellers, however, were waiting and watching. Ethylene is $130/mt higher weekly at $950/mt Sept. EDC production costs are at least $275.50/mt based on the
ethylene prices. VCM: The Asian vinyl
chloride monomer was stable over the week of Sept. 1, as downstream
