Domestic price in China hit Yuan 8,300-8,400/mt / Weak downstream demand dents buying

The acrylonitrile market in Far East Asia stayed unchanged Aug. 5, as tighter spot supply balanced the weak downstream demand. The price of ACN in eastern China was heard to be Yuan 8,300-8,300/mt ex-tank Aug. 5, up Yuan 100/mt week over week. Market opinion was split on the tradable level for ACN. "I heard a major acrylonitrile producer in eastern China shut their plant due to bad margins, and this helped to support discussions for domestic cargoes this week," a producer in Asia said. Other Chinese producers were heard to be running at lower rates due to weak downstream demand, with some believing that the production cut may trigger a recovery for spot discussions.
