Introduction
Methanol is one of the chemical industry’s major building-block molecules. It is used to produce formaldehyde, acetic acid, fuels, solvents, and numerous downstream chemicals. Conventional methanol is commonly produced from synthesis gas derived from fossil feedstocks, which creates a significant carbon footprint. Renewable and low-carbon methanol routes aim to reduce lifecycle emissions by changing the source of carbon, hydrogen, and process energy.
