Digital Twins in the Chemical and Refining Industry

 Introduction
Chemical plants and refineries generate enormous volumes of operating data from sensors, laboratory systems, maintenance records, control systems, and business applications. A digital twin seeks to turn that information into a useful digital representation of a physical asset, process, or facility. The term is used broadly, so not every dashboard or simulation is automatically a digital twin. A practical digital twin typically combines a model with current or historical plant data so engineers and operators can understand performance, test scenarios, diagnose problems, or predict future behavior.

 Types of Digital Twins
Digital twins can exist at several levels. An equipment twin may represent a pump, compressor, heat exchanger, or reactor. A process twin may model an entire distillation train or production unit....
