The European polystyrene markets remained
quiet during the week that ended Nov. 23. A trader stated that the market was
"basically frozen". The market was slow to recover in
November and then declined further into December. A producer
stated that electronic packaging and food demand remained the primary source of
all markets. However, construction activity was quiet for the winter, and auto
demand was hampered by rapid inflation and a series of other economic factors. With the end
of the fishing season, there was a decrease in demand for transport boxes. Prices in
the upstream monomer market for styrene showed a decrease through November, but
