European benzene prices dropped on Nov. 24,
with trading continuing prior to the settlement for the December contract price. The forward delivery can for five to thirty days
was reduced by $94/mt to $650/mt. This is similar to the December trading low. This sharp
decline was caused by weaker US demand. A trader
stated that exports from Europe had increased to 40,000 mt in October and
November. This offered some supply relief as the
downstream European derivative demand was low for benzene. Another
trader stated that the drop was also due to lower crude oil prices. On Nov. 23,
the ICE Brent crude front month swap was down $3.93 to $85.06/b, at 1630 London
