Asian Orthoxylene: Prices decline in a bearish market / Slower demand, increasing supply dampen sentiment / Sinopec reduces OX price

Asian orthoxylene prices fell $5-$10/mt week over week as of July 25, due to rising supply and lackluster demand. In the Chinese domestic market, a market source expects supply to increase as an OX plant restarts. Sinopec lowered its OX list price to Yuan 6,800/mt on July 21, and market participants attributed the adjustment to weakness in the downstream phthalic anhydride market. Domestic OXbased PA discussions were heard around Yuan 6,450/mt, falling Yuan 150-200/mt week over week. Some market participants expected the list price to be adjusted downward again in the following week, due to downstream pressure and new OX capacity.
