- Contract settlement liquidity low- Styrene margin turns negative

On June 27, activity in the European
benzene markets was muted. This was following a French industry
conference that took place in Marseilles the week before. The market
saw little trading activity as the trading window opened for the July contract
price settlement. This is a five-day period that takes place in spot trading. Styrene
prices fell sharply downstream as stocks in the market remained high. However,
there was still little demand from the downstream sector. The forward
loading can for styrene at $1,800-1,840/mt FOB AR was down $144.75-160.50/mt
over the five to 30 days. The spread between benzene &
styrene was negative for the day. Styrene saw a $29-35/mt discount on benzene.
