The Asian benzene markets began the week of
February 20th with slow trading momentum as participants continued to be
cautious about the potential directional shifts. In the wake of the many
turnarounds in the area, took place. Last week's firm bid at $953/mt brought FOB
Korea benzene physical marker up to $959.67/mt. Some sources
indicated that the March-April paper spread was lower than expected. April
benzene paper is priced at $940-960/mt. A total of 264.500 mt of benzene
derivatives traded were cleared on the Singapore Exchange in the month
January. The month-to date trade volume was at
164,500mt in week ending February 17, compared to 54,500mt the two weeks before. Open
interest stood at 205,000 mt.
