Chinese domestic methanol spot price fell due to
a drop in crude oil prices and downstream prices. However, losses remained
small because of uncertain supply conditions in December. According to market sources, the market
structure was stable with December prices increasing their premium over January
in anticipation of Middle East production cuts. Methanol
demand in China remained weak, especially since Methanol-to Olefins plant production was low due to poor
economics. Spot
methanol is not in high demand at the moment. However, downstream plants are
reducing their operations. Market sources also said that
sentiment was affected by the prospect of China building more competitive
