The fundamentals of the Chinese methanol
market were stable in September 2 despite limited supply, while the outlook
downstream was mixed. According
to data from China's Customs Statistics Information Center, monoethylene glycol
imports fell 11.7% in July to 570,552 tonnes (mt) in July. Sources said this was due to low polyester demand. The continued drawdown in domestic PP stocks supported
domestic polypropylene prices, however, in the week ending Sept. 2. Several PP plants in China have been reported to have
delayed their commissioning due to slow buying over recent months. Sources said that peak PP season is starting this month and
the price rise could help improve methanol to olefin margins. Over the week ending Sept. 2, at least 27,000 mt of methanol
