China Discovers 110 Million Ton Oil Field in South China Sea

China National Offshore Oil Corporation announced that it had made a major discovery in the East South China Sea with the Huizhou field 19-6. The offshore oilfield is estimated to have 110 million tons in oil reserves. Huizhou field 19-6, located 106 miles from Shenzhen, in Guangdong Province boasts a water depth of approximately 328 feet. This is China's largest integrated clastic field found in ultra-deep to deep layers. Initial tests have shown promising results, with a total production of 413 barrels crude oil and 68,000 cu meters natural gas. This suggests that more exploration may reveal even larger reserves. CNOOC Shenzhen says that deep and ultra-deep layers make up approximately 60% of all remaining oil reserves.
