This week saw Asian phenol and Asian
acetone markets show strength, in line with steady gains in China's domestic
price over the week and news of some plant turnarounds. Sources said that several
producers in Northeast Asia were hearing lower production levels while others
were shutting down for maintenance this month. East China's domestic acetone prices were at Yuan 5,200-5250/mt,
while phenol discussion levels rose to Yuan 9,700-9800/mt on September 6. Many Chinese producers raised ex-factory prices for phenol
starting in September. A variety of plants
in China were also reported to have shut down in September for maintenance,
raising concerns about supply. Discussion
