Due to weak domestic demand and the
approaching Lunar New Year holiday, Asia phenol/acetone markets saw muted trade
negotiations in the week up to Jan. 10. Prices for phenol in the east China market remained stable,
while acetone levels remained low. Ex-tank
supplies of acetone were less than Yuan 5,000-5,080/mt. A North China producer
quoted Yuan 4,800-4,880/mt Jan. 10 as a low, a four-month-low. CFR China Acetone was $595/mt Jan. 10, a $25/mt decrease on
the previous week. A local trader said that
the demand for downstream isopropyl alcohol wasn't healthy and that some
factories had stopped operations earlier in the week for holidays. Yuan 7,500/mt was the ex-tank price for phenol, or
approximately $929.87/mt before tax. CFR
