Asian
toluene prices were stronger than expected on May 12, despite a spike in
downstream aromatics prices, arbitrage flows to the US, and other factors. Crude
prices traded in tight ranges while Asian toluene was trading stable to higher. A producer stated that
most gasoline blenders keep [stocks] while [in] China there is no toluene, or
at most sold for Korea already. He said,
"I have no spot or cargoes." He
added that only term contracts were moving at the moment. Due to tight supplies and high demand, the FOB Korea marker
was valued at $1,060/mt- $1,080/mt FOB Korean, an increase of $10/mt-$17/mt. The June FOB US Gulf price was last evaluated May 11th at
