In the week ending Aug. 10, spot
discussions in the polystyrene market remained quiet due to a wide gap between
buying and selling indications. Producers are reluctant to lower prices because
of their poor margins. According
to some Asian producers, buying interest was subdued in comparison to the
levels at which they were willing to sell. A producer in the general-purpose polystyrene markets stated
that no buyers had been interested since last week. Producers were reluctant reduce their prices because margins
were extremely poor. Buyers expected prices to fall further due to the
backwardation structure. In Southeast
Asia, buyers indicated they were interested in purchasing at $1300/mt CFR
