- Upstream losses impact benzene and styrene- Weaker benzene prices factor
into softer styrene numbers

European styrene prices dropped on July 13,
with lower upstream price trends impacting sentiment despite the declaration by
force majeure of styrene production at Maasvlakte in the Netherlands on Jul 4. According to one source, prices have fallen due
to lower Brent and benzene crude oil prices. There was sufficient styrene on
the market to compensate for any product loss resulting from the Maasvlakte
outage. The five-to-30-day forward price of benzene
dropped $62.50-67.50/mt to $1,315.25-1,350.50/mt. The spread
between styrene and feedstock benzene increased to $434.50-460.25/mt, up from
$398.50-420.25/mt on July 12.
