Due to low downstream demand and high
feedstock prices, Asian caprolactam was weak. Regional producers opted
to operate only one or two production lines rather than running all of them in
the hope that end-users will continue to buy less. Sources said that although the recent drop in benzene prices
has helped to alleviate the high cost, some producers were still hurt by higher
phenol or ammonia prices. The cost of East
China's domestic caprolactam was around Yuan 11,700/mt. South China was around
Yuan 12,000/mt. Due to rising costs, some
downstream producers in the region tried to raise nylon 66 prices. This was a
