- Benzene prices tumble following crude price falls- Lower downstream demand after
Maasvlakte outage

European markets saw benzene prices
continue to fall on July 6 due to bearish crude oil prices as well as a
downstream production outage. Crude oil
prices have softened this week with the ICE Brent crude front-month swap at
$100.69-120.45/b. This is $2.13-3.50 less than the previous day. In
anticipation of lower downstream demand, the five- to thirty-day forward
delivery can for benzene dropped $78.50-83.50/mt to $1.543-2.500/mt CIF AR. The
Netherlands Maasvlakte monomer styrene production facility for monomer
production was declared force majeure by Covestro on July 4. POSM has a
680,000 mt annual styrene production capacity. Styrene
margins grew to $274.50-300.35/mt, surpassing benzene.
