European ethylene markets were watching for
signs of an increase in buying interest after the Eur120/mt drop in September's
industry-settled contract prices Sept. 1 to Eur1,305/mt. Although the agreed price
brings the contract level down to its lowest point since January's
Eur1,272.50/mt (although sources from the buying side said they were
disappointed by the prospect of a greater decrease). A buyer stated that producers were not prepared for such a
drastic decrease in ethylene, particularly after propylene experienced a
greater decrease. So they compensated. Propylene
is being funded by ethylene. Market
sources continue to monitor the Asian market for buying interest due to the
