Spot activity on the inland European
ethylene markets remained subdued over the week ending February 10, as buyers
remained off the sidelines due to limited downstream demand, persistent market
length and weak spot activity. The European
ethylene market's domestic demand was said to be weak due to pressures from
downstream derivative industries and other macroeconomic factors like energy
and production costs. A consumer stated that there was an
"intrinsic demand" but that high production costs were still a burden. Participants
in the market said they had difficulty passing on recent increases in feedstock
prices downstream. There is limited derivative demand and a lack of length in
