The sharp rise in oil prices caused a sharp
rebound in Asian benzene prices. Sources said
that there were some inquiries from North China. However, it was not clear if
any cargoes had been fixed. Buyers were interested in possible
discussions because of the wide spread between East China's domestic market and
FOB Korea's benzene market. August CFR China cargoes were offered
at a plus $25-30/mt above the August weekly Mean of Korea base price for
benzene. Some market sources considered the steep
backwardation of the East China market to be risky as it could lead to lower
