Sources said that the Asia naphtha market
was quiet because fundamentals were still weak due to low downstream demand. Since May 13, the breakeven point for integrated
producers of CFR Northeast Asia ethylene (C+F Japan naphtha) has been below
$250-280/mt. The Asian close on July 1 saw it at $108.25-13-.25/mt,
down $1.50-2.50/mt. Market sources say that Naphtha supplies will
continue to be long with more suppliers offering cargoes on high-refinery runs
to make transport fuels. Market sources claim that higher
naphtha prices could reduce demand for cracker-feed naphtha because of the
bearish margins to produce olefins and low run rates from olefin manufacturers. The
benchmark Naphtha C+F Japan cargo rose $13.25-18.50/mt over the week to close
at $831.75-850.45/mt on July 1. The...
