- Flat prices fall with September's RBOB- August gasoline prices rise, September falls

US Gulf Coast spot MTBE flat price fell to
378.09c/gal FOB USG July 28. This was based on a narrowing premium and steeply
backwardated front-month gasoline futures. Based on market feedback, the premium to September RBOB was
67.91c/gal. It was narrower by 1 cent per day. August RBOB closed higher by 3.58 Cents at 346.46c/gal and
September closed lower at 310.18c/gal. The
backwardation widened to 36.28 Cents due to this divergence. According to a source, the reason for this steep gasoline
backwardation late in the month is that the physical market is extremely
tight due to a decrease in imports and strong New York demand.
