Decent discussions were less common in the
Asian market for ethylene on Nov. 8, as there was limited supply. End-users continued to
voice their willingness to buy at $850-870/mt or less on a CFR Northeast Asia basis.
Buyers continue to point out weak derivative production margins. An ethylene buyer from China stated that "prices of
styrene monomer (SM), continue to fall and although we have already reduced
operating costs at our SM plants to 70%-80%, but we are still losing
money." "We can't afford
ethylene at current prices." Some
traders still received enquiries about December cargoes, despite the fact that
